Prawn Thokku how to prepaere

Prawn thokku

is a delicious South Indian dish made with prawns (shrimp) cooked in a spicy and tangy tomato-based gravy.

Here's a basic recipe to prepare prawn thokku:

Ingredients: 500 grams of prawns (shelled and deveined) 2 large onions (finely chopped) 3-4 ripe tomatoes (pureed) 2-3 green chilies (slit lengthwise) 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste 1 teaspoon mustard seeds 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder 1 tablespoon red chili powder (adjust according to spice preference) 1 tablespoon coriander powder 1/2 teaspoon garam masala Salt to taste Fresh coriander leaves (for garnishing) 2-3 tablespoons cooking oil Instructions: Clean the prawns thoroughly under running water.

If they are large, you can cut them into smaller pieces.

Heat oil in a pan or kadai over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter. Add chopped onions and green chilies. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.

Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a couple of minutes until the raw smell disappears. Now, add the tomato puree along with turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt.

Mix well and cook until the raw smell of the tomatoes goes away and the oil starts to separate from the masala. Add the cleaned prawns to the masala.

Mix well so that the prawns are coated with the masala. Cover the pan and let the prawns cook in the masala for about 5-7 minutes.

Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking. Once the prawns are cooked and the masala reaches a thick consistency, add garam masala and give it a final mix. Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

Your delicious prawn thokku is ready to be served! Enjoy it hot with steamed rice, roti, or any Indian bread of your choice.
